Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESAs) provide aid to families of children with Special Needs, as well as children currently attending a public school deemed by the state to be a “D” or “F” rated school, in order to be able to attend a private school of their choice. They are administered by the AZ Department of Education.
ESA funds may be used for tuition as well as classroom aides and other academic supports for your student. All students with an IEP or 504 Plan from a public school are eligible to receive ESA funding to attend a private school, as are their siblings.
Additionally, students currently attending a “D” or “F” rated public school are eligible for ESA funding to attend a private school. To see if your child’s current school qualifies him or her for ESA support, visit the AZ Dept of Education’s Statewide Schools Report Card at https://azreportcards.com.
For more information on Empowerment Scholarships (ESAs), including funding amounts available based on your child’s individual circumstances, click on the Dept of Education’s ESA homepage.
ESA Applications may be completed year-round; Award decisions are made quarterly.
NOTE: A student may not receive both ESA funding and STO/Tax Credit funding for the same academic year.
